A Bridge Between Cultures: AIS Team Takes Part in an International Chess Festival
The event brought together 42 teams from 20 countries.
The Alabuga International School team represented Tatarstan at the “Intellect Academy Cup 2026” International Chess Festival in Novokuznetsk. The tournament brought together more than 700 participants.
The school team rapid chess competition attracted particular attention from spectators. It followed a new format: all games were broadcast online, with analysis provided by international grandmasters.
The Alabuga International School team finished 16th among Russian teams, played against opponents from Peru, Kenya, and China, and arranged future online matches.
AIS student Yana Alekseeva drew her game against international grandmaster Sergey Zabolotsky in a simultaneous exhibition and received a certificate afterward. In the bughouse chess tournament, teacher Andrey Komarov partnered with Sri Lanka’s blitz champion to take second place and bring home a trophy.
The festival became a true bridge between cultures, helping students gain competitive experience and make friends from other countries. AIS says the team intends to win gold medals next year.
