Alabuga International School has concluded its third annual STEM Conference. The event brought together young researchers and engineers from different regions of Russia. On April 15–16, school students worked with complex technical challenges during a hackathon and presented their original work at an exhibition of individual projects.
The first day of the conference was devoted to an intensive team hackathon and preparing display stands for project presentations. Participants formed groups and spent several hours developing engineering solutions, which had been transformed into an open workspace.
The second day featured a large-scale “Expo” poster session, where the jury assessed the depth and relevance of each participant’s individual research.
In the junior category, Elisey Kilin from Boarding Lyceum No. 79 in Naberezhnye Chelny took first place with a fusion reactor project. Second place went to Alabuga International School student Semyon Ivanov for his work on modeling a closed ecosystem for growing plants on the surface of Mars. Mikhail Avuev (AIS) took third place with a concept for medicines delivery capsules designed for targeted treatment.
In the senior category, Kirill Rybel and Evgeny Drozdov from Secondary School No. 18 in Dzerzhinsk won first place for their research into snow mantle as an indicator of industrial air pollution. Samat Zaitsev from the Quantorium children’s technology park took second place for modifying a 3D printer’s head, while Viktoria Barsukova (AIS) placed third with a model of a system for converting plastic into purified protein.
The top-performing hackathon teams were also recognized.
This was the third annual STEM Conference held in the Alabuga Special Economic Zone. The event aims to encourage the exchange of experience and ideas in STEM education and to support young people and their development.
